Pochaug
Pochaug, comes from the Algonquin language from the Unkechaug tribe. Its meaning describes a turning point or where two streams separate.
Prior to creating, researching about the town was essential. Each work derives from a map from 1807, 1888, and 2020 through a woodblock print. The works vary from drawing, digital collage, watercolors, writing, and the burning of an artwork. I lived in this town for 22 years and I grew up knowing it as a mediocre town. However, growing up as a Hispanic in a predominantly Caucasian community left me questioning my cultural identity and my community. Within these works, I am trying to find a home within my home.
