Heading to Work

Henri Cartier-Bresson once said, “It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera…they are made with the eye, heart, and head.”

Heading to Work focuses on the Lithography studio at Stony Brook University. It was in this room that I spent countless hours in. The images consist of the processing materials needed to produce a lithograph print. They are personified as relics as I depended on them. I’ve experienced turmoil and serenity in this studio. Depending on which days were which, these materials were impacted. On bad days, the pressure wasn’t strong, the press would make strange noises, and processing the stone was not enough to produce a print. On good days, everything went smoothly as the final result would be peeling the paper off, the print perfect, and a happy dance will ensue.
